a typical evening on Alpha

1 hour - Supper / light meal
Evening courses begin at 5:30 with a meal of some kind, ranging from a full supper to a soup and salad meal. Guests usually eat with other members of their own 'group' of around 12 people. Sometimes a voluntary donation is accepted towards the cost of the meal.

45 min. - Talk
The main talk of the evening addresses a key issue relating to the Christian faith. We use a vide of speaker Nicky Gumbel giving the talk.

Titles of Talks
  • Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can I be sure of my faith?
  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • Why and how should I pray?
  • How does God guide us?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • What does the Holy Spirit do?
  • How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
  • How can I resist evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?
  • What aobut the Church?

15 min. - Coffee
At the end of the talk, the guests break for coffee - usually in their small groups.

45 min. - Small Groups
Many guests speak of how they find the small group sessions to be the most valuable and rewarding times of the whole Alpha course. The sessions are an opportunity to ask questions, express opinions and to discuss the topic of the evening. They also provide an opportunity to make friends and to bounce ideas around in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.

Ends
We bring the discussion to a close at 8:00 pm, although guests are free to say and chat if they would like.

What's the cost? (it's free!)

"I believe the Alpha course has been one of the greatest initiatives in recent times to introduce people to Christianity in an easy-to-understand, down-to-earth and informal way."
