When are services?

Services are held on Sunday mornings from 10:45 to 12:00. We also have Sunday School, Youth group, and several other meetings throughout the week. For more information see the List of Meetings.

Where is Silverton Friends Church (SFC)?

SFC is at 29 Eureka Avenue, in Silverton, Oregon. Here's a page with a map and more information.

What is an online community?

It's a place where members can share information.

What's a member?

To join the online community, you have to register and log in. A member is someone who has joined the community.

How do I register?

Go to the registration page and enter your information - email address, full name and the church password. The program will send you an email with a link to confirm your email address. When you get the email, click the link and you'll be registered. You can change your password then so you remember it easier, rather than using the system assigned password. From then on you can log in when you come to the SFC web site and participate in the sharing of information.

How do I log in?

On pages where you can log in, there is a small form on the top left of the page, just below the SFC logo. It has a box for your email address and your password, plus a check box labeled 'remember me'. Put in your email address and password, and if you want the program to remember you for 30 days click the checkbox. Don't click the checkbox if you're on a public computer.

If you're having trouble logging in, have you registered yet? If you forgot your password, you can register again, that will reset your password and send you a link, which will allow you to change your password.

Why have a 'church password'? and How do I get it?

We have a church password to ensure that only people who attend SFC can register with this system. To get the password, talk to either or any of the Social Concerns Committee (Kevin Ortega is the clerk).

Will my email address be posted on the internet?
Will I get all kinds of spam because my email address is on the internet?

Your email address will be displayed for people to see and use, however there are two things stopping any kind of program from getting your email address and automatically putting it on some spam list.

  1. I use javascript to scramble the email address, so what the browser reads from the server is NOT what it displays on the screen - yes, someone could write a program that figures it out, but I don't think they'd bother, besides, they'd have to make their program process javascript, which would be no small feat. My email address is on this page (under church password), see if you can find it by looking at the page source (right click the page, select view page source). You'll see that it's not immediately evident what the email address is without using some deductive reasoning.
  2. The program will not put your email address on the page unless the person reading the page is logged in, which means they are a member of the online community. A scrape program can not log into the system to see email addresses.

Will my personal information be safe on the internet?

The ONLY people who can see your information are those who have registered. Thus, they are people who have gotten the church password, thus they are people who attend SFC.
